My First Posting

I was inspired to join this blog site after reading some postings and looking at pics posted by other doll aficionados. A lot of the pictures I've seen here were inspiring to me and were just plain fun to look at, I also enjoyed reading the feedback people were giving each other.

I am going to post about my doll projects, upload pics, and hopefully connect with others who share the same interests.
Ellowyne Wilde, a Tamara Casey repaint doll.
She is wearing a fall outfit that I fashioned for her.
I recently purchased an Obitsu doll (27cm) with the standard Obitsu open eyed head. She is a large bust, soft body type. I bought her glass eyes, eyelashes (we'll see how the installation goes...lol) and a wig. The wig was purchased from designsbyjude (Tamara Casey), an extremely trustworthy eBay vender, whom I highly recommend for patterns, wigs, and the occasional repaint doll.

At this time (5/20/12), all I have done is prep her for painting. I have sanded the entire surface of the doll with ultra fine (350 & 400) sandpaper to remove all of the manufacturing flaws so that she has a flawlessly smooth skin. It is possible to sand her with even finer paper and buff her surface like you would fingernails. However, I don't want her to have shiny skin so the 400 sandpaper is the finest I will be using. Right now, her skin looks natural and has an extremely smooth feel without looking glossy.

My complaints about Obitsu dolls? Those dang feet! They are too dinky! The width is good, but they should be about 1cm longer to look natural on a 27cm doll. The rubbery hands...wish they were hard vinyl like the feet. Both feet and hands could be a little more detailed. There should also be hard vinyl heads available in the open eye socket type as it would be nice to adjust the face sculpt a bit.

The pluses for Obitsu? They are the most posable dolls I've seen! They are well balanced and can assume almost any position a human can and a few they can't... The doll is realistically proportioned, except for the feet. She does not have a abnormally thin waist or the long skinny legs that make Barbie and similar dolls look so bad.

I will soon post before and after pics of her to show the face up. She'll probably be naked for a while, since I have no patterns for her yet and I'm in the midst of a project to make a customized Ellowyne Wilde doll. She could be naked for months!
